Baptisms

baptism image A baptism is an act of commitment to the Christian faith. It may be for an adult, but commonly is for a baby or young child, and thus is often associated with giving thanks to God for the gift of a child and celebrating their arrival.

At St John's we encourage all candidates for baptism, (or their parents in the case of children) to attend a couple of preparatory meetings. These are typically a Wednesday evening and an hour on a Saturday morning. These sessions aim to enrich your understanding of the Christian faith and to help to equip you to live it out, as well as explaining everything that goes on in the baptism service itself. The actual baptisms usually take place on the first Sunday of each month, at either 11.15 a.m. or 12.15 p.m.
