Family Service Holy Communion Morning Prayer Parish Communion Pram Service  Worship Together

This page describes the various types of service.

Parish Communion

As the principal service of the church, the Parish Communion aims to be accessible to as broad a cross-section of the parish as possible. It is the largest gathering of the week, and uses contemporary liturgy (Common Worship) together with a range of traditional hymns and modern songs.

Children meet at the back of the church in their group, FIRE, during this service. They join the rest of the congregation for communion.

Worship Together

‘Worship Together’ is relaxed and joyful, helping us to celebrate the goodness of God and to be built up in our daily lives. It is a service for all ages and for all the parish, lasting about 50 minutes. The uniformed youth organizations attend with their colours. It is not a communion service, but focuses on the teaching themes of the other morning services during the month and presents them in imaginative and practical ways.

Family Service

This is a very informal service, especially suited to young children. It is an ideal way for families to start to come to church together after the baptism of a child. It also aims to be accessible to those with little or no experience of church services. It often includes lively action songs and lasts about half an hour.

Holy Communion

Holy Communion services in the old church at 8.00 a.m. use the 1662 Prayer Book and also include an address. They are ideal for those who appreciate times of quiet reverence. There are no hymns. The Sunday morning service lasts for about 45 minutes; the Thursday morning about 30 minutes. On the third Thursday of the month there is the chance to receive the laying-on of hands, as a way of bringing to God specific prayers.

Morning Prayer (Tuesday and Thursday)

Join the staff for their daily prayers together, as they say psalms of praise, read from the Bible, and offer prayers for many concerns locally and around the world. Anyone is welcome, either regularly or as a one-off. The prayers last 20-30 minutes.

Pram Service

This is an informal service held on 3rd Tuesday (except August) for parents, grandparents and carers of pre-school children. We have fun with stories, activities, music and prayers and time to chat (or play) afterwards over drinks and biscuits. Just come along!
