Do come and join us to hear more of Sir Douglas’s interesting and amusing anecdotes!
NEW SIDESMEN WANTED (posted for 7/3/10) Is there anybody (male or female) out there who would like to join the Sidemen’s rota? We have lost a couple of stalwarts recently and we would like to replenish our ranks. The duties are not particularly onerous and you would only be expected to be on duty once a month. No previous experience required just a warm welcome to our congregation as they arrive for services. Speak to either of the Churchwardens, Trevor or Richard, for more details.
IT WAS A MUSICAL FEAST! (posted for 7/3/10) Congratulations to all the pupils and teachers who prepared and presented such a wonderful Concert on Sunday 28th. And how superb the arias from Carmen were as a finale. Thank you everyone.
PAINTING FOR PLEASURE ART EXHIBITION (posted for 7/3/10) Saturday, 13th March 9.30 - 4.00 in the Guide Hut (at the end of the Tudor Parade of shops). Come and see paintings by local amateur artists - you’ll recognise some names from St. John’s!
MEDIEVAL BANQUET (posted for 7/3/10) We do hope that you will join us at our Medieval Banquet on Saturday 24th April as part of our Anniversary celebrations. It’s an opportunity for the whole church family to have fun together, along with our friends from OCCC, St Mary’s and others from the local community who don’t normally come to church! Some of the local schools are helping out by performing and serving. Tickets - costing £10 for adults, £5 for children under 11, or if you buy a group of 4 adult tickets the price is £35 - will go on sale Sunday 14th March so please remember to bring a cheque or cash to buy yours! (We will not be able to take orders for tickets)

Linda Fletcher THANKSGIVING (posted for 7/3/10) We were very sorry to learn of the death of a member of St. John’s very active over many years. There will be a Thanksgiving Service for him in Church on Tuesday, 16th March at 2.30 p.m. Please keep the family in your prayers at this sad time.
VISITING STUDENTS (posted for 7/3/10) Would you like to open your home to Italian Students for 23 days? We are looking for people in Caterham (6-29 July) and Old Coulsdon (8-31 July) who will provide a friendly and secure base where these young people (aged 11-14) will experience a family atmosphere, have a chance to practise their English and generally learn about the British way of life. The students come here under the auspices of TGS Eurogroup and study English, from 9.00 - 5.30 p.m. each weekday. In order to cover your expenses, we give £16 per student per day. WOMEN’S WORLD DAY OF PRAYER (posted for 21/2/10) Does My Waist Look Big In This? The women in Cameroon, West Africa, have written this year’s service, which will be used all round the world. When working in the fields the women tie their hair in a turban and their skirt is a wrap-around one tucked in at the waist. These days the Cameroon women tie an extra knot to make a pocket for their mobile phone! Come to one of our local services to find out more of life in Cameroon. On Friday 5 March, men, women and children will receive a warm welcome at: 10.30 a.m. at St. John’s and 7.30 p.m. at St. Andrew’s, Coulsdon (with slides of Cameroon). Tea and coffee will be served and Traidcraft products will be on sale.

DADS TOGETHER (posted for 14/2/10) We had our regular pub meeting in the Tudor Rose on Monday 1st March from 8 p.m. onwards.
Looking beyond that, a camping weekend away has been organised for all Dads and their children. This will be over the May Bank holiday weekend (30th April - 3rd May) at Blacklands Farm, which is a Guide Association campsite near East Grinstead. ZIMBABWE LINK (posted for 14/2/10) The wife of the priest in our link parish in Zimbabwe, has had an urgent appendix operation in the last week. This will be paid for initially by Croydon - Zimbabwe Link funds but we would be happy to forward any donations towards the $1600 US cost.

CONCERT (posted for 14/2/10) FRESH from ST. CLEMENT DANES, LONDON where it gave a superb Christmas Concert, with an enthusiastic review in the Advertiser, Croydon Male Voice Choir returns to St. John’s together with The Swift Singers, a Ladies’ Choir from Essex, and a surprise guest soloist, on Saturday, 13th March at 7.30 p.m. for what promises to be another wonderful concert. Tickets - just £8.00 each (including refreshments) - from the Parish Office (Half the proceeds for St. John’s funds).
THANKSGIVING MESSAGE (posted for 14/2/10) “I should like to thank everyone who so kindly came to The Thanksgiving Service for the life of my husband. You really did sing with joy and gusto! I felt the warmth of your love surrounding me as you sang to the accompaniment of the ‘Loud Organ’, which did indeed ‘Foretell in deep tones the story of what the Lord has done’. CONCERT (posted for 14/2/10) ‘SONG of SONGS’ The Bourne Singers will be giving a Concert at St. John’s on Saturday, 6th March at 7.30 p.m. with ‘love poems from the Old Testament in settings from Palestrina to Duruflé’ Tickets: £10 (children £5) on the door.

Spend time listening to God, considering your own journey with Christ and joining others in worship and prayer. Quiet Days run from 10.00 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. with the option of staying for evening worship at 5.00 p.m. and are held once a month - the next few being on 9th February, 9th March, 13th April and 11th May.
